The prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, titled Kantara: Chapter 1, has taken the box office by storm since its release on October 2nd. Starring Rishab Shetty, the film has reportedly crossed the ₹200 crore mark in worldwide collections in just its first three days.
With this explosive start, trade analysts predict the Kannada-language film is on a clear path to join the ₹300 crore club. If it maintains this pace, it is expected to shatter the record set by the first KGF chapter.
Made on a budget of approximately ₹125 crore, the film has amassed an estimated ₹235 crore over its opening weekend. Its day-wise collections are as follows:
- Opening Day: ₹88 Crore
- Second Day: ₹65 Crore
- Third Day: ₹82 Crore
This impressive performance has already made Kantara: Chapter 1 the fourth highest-grossing film in the history of Kannada cinema. While it still trails behind the massive collections of KGF: Chapter 2 and the original Kantara, it is projected to soon surpass the ₹250 crore record held by KGF: Chapter 1.
The original Kantara, made on a modest budget of ₹16 crore, became a phenomenal success with collections of ₹450 crore. The industry is now watching to see if its prequel can continue this legacy and compete with the top-tier giants of Kannada cinema.
